Migrating Lotus Notes Applications to AWS
As companies move from the legacy Lotus Notes platform to a cloud-based solution, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), they must consider a range of data migration strategies. It’s important to classify this migration correctly because although mail, calendar, and contact data is fairly uniform and can be migrated with tools from a wide variety of vendors, Notes applications vary widely in terms of functionality, data set, and access control.
AWS is a powerful, extensible, cloud-based application platform that enables a software-as-a-service platform for former Lotus Notes applications. Over the years, companies have invested significantly in the Domino platform. These applications can be adapted to AWS as-needed with a Lotus Notes migration, often saving ongoing IT maintenance and operational costs.
The Benefits:
- AWS is billed based on user consumption; pay only for the time your users actually interact with any application.
- AWS is “as a service”; you do not have to maintain server disk space, update the operating system, monitor for malware, or worry about routers dropping end user connections.
- You are no longer tied to using a Notes client or Domino server to give your end users the applications they need; no more license fees or hassles updating and maintaining the platform.
How ?
Workflow Studios has created a migration process that does the following:
- Extracts the data from a Notes database into an AWS DynamoDb and to S3 buckets for file attachments.
- Creates a static website (hosted in AWS S3) that provides navigation, views, and forms for the application
- Allows for data entry and editing of migrated data.
Notes applications tend to have many customizations that don’t easily migrate, such as agents. WFS has decades of Notes/Domino experience to help client’s interpret what’s used, what’s needed, and how to go about migrating those functions. During application review, we’ll identify what those items are and estimate effort level to handle them. Contact sales@workflowstudios.com to discuss your application migration needs.
